Recognizing volunteer physicians and how they improve health care

The COPIC Humanitarian Award has honored over 25 volunteer physicians.

The COPIC Humanitarian Award was established in 2001 in honor of former COPIC board member, Harold “Hal” E. Williamson. The annual award recognizes a physician going above the scope of their practice to volunteer in the community, and provides a $10,000 grant to be given to the health-related nonprofit of the recipient’s choice.

“Monte is one of the most compassionate people I know—the kind of person who goes out of his way to help no matter what the situation is. When he is not spending time with his family or at work, he devotes much of his time to helping our community in a variety of ways.”

Janet Brug, a Registered Nurse and Risk Manager at Wray Community District Hospital, who nominated Dr. Monte Uyemura, a 2016 Humanitarian Award winner
