- 1982 -- COPIC is founded as a self-insurance trust
- 1982 to 1986 -- COPIC's market share averages 30-35%. Many physicians join COPIC because of its pledge to return excess monies to policyholders whenever loss experience and investment returns allow
- 1984 -- COPIC becomes a fully licensed and regulated Colorado insurance company.
- 1985 -- COPIC Insurance Company begins writing policies under its own name effective January 1.
- 1986 and 1987 -- More than 1,200 physicians join COPIC when their carriers declare huge rate hikes or cease writing in Colorado.
- 2001 -- St. Paul Companies, one of the largest medical malpractice insurers in the country, decides to exit the business. This leaves many Colorado physicians with soon-to-expire coverage. Some of these physicians switch to COPIC, adding yet again to our policyholder base.
- 2002 -- COPIC earns the endorsement of the Nebraska Medical Association and begins serving Nebraska physicians.
- 2004 -- COPIC begins serving Nebraska hospitals and health care facilities.
