History

  • 1982 -- COPIC is founded as a self-insurance trust
  • 1982 to 1986 -- COPIC's market share averages 30-35%. Many physicians join COPIC because of its pledge to return excess monies to policyholders whenever loss experience and investment returns allow
  • 1984 -- COPIC becomes a fully licensed and regulated Colorado insurance company.
  • 1985 -- COPIC Insurance Company begins writing policies under its own name effective January 1.
  • 1986 and 1987 -- More than 1,200 physicians join COPIC when their carriers declare huge rate hikes or cease writing in Colorado.
